WEEK 37 — Humility and Dependence

Session 37.1 — God Resists the Proud
Read: James 4:6
In James 4:6, we are reminded that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Pride creates a barrier between us and God because it leads us to rely on our own strength and wisdom rather than on Him. Humility, on the other hand, opens the door for God’s grace, as it acknowledges our need for Him and His work in our lives. We can show humility by recognizing our dependence on God in all things, submitting to His will, and serving others selflessly. Today, let’s choose to be humble, placing our trust fully in God’s grace.

Session 37.2 — Humble Yourselves
Read: 1 Peter 5:6
In 1 Peter 5:6, Peter encourages believers to humble themselves under God’s mighty hand, trusting that He will lift them up in due time. Humbling ourselves means acknowledging God’s sovereignty and submitting to His will, even when it requires patience and waiting. Waiting on God is an act of humility because it demonstrates trust in His perfect timing and plan. Today, let’s trust in God’s timing, knowing that He will lift us up when the time is right.

Session 37.3 — Apart From Me You Can Do Nothing
Read: John 15:5
In John 15:5, Jesus teaches that apart from Him, we can do nothing. This truth emphasizes our dependence on Him for everything—our strength, wisdom, and ability to live according to God’s will. Trying to live independently of Jesus leads to spiritual emptiness and failure, but when we remain connected to Him, we bear fruit and live fruitful lives. Today, let’s pray and depend on Jesus for everything, recognizing that we need Him in every moment.

Session 37.4 — God Gives Strength to the Humble
Read: Isaiah 66:2
In Isaiah 66:2, God declares that He looks with favor on those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at His Word. A humble heart recognizes God’s greatness and seeks to honor Him. God values humility because it reflects a heart that is open to His guidance and correction. When we approach God’s Word with reverence, we invite His strength and wisdom into our lives. Today, let’s listen carefully to God’s Word, allowing it to shape our hearts and minds.

Session 37.5 — Trust in the Lord, Not in Yourself
Read: Proverbs 3:7
Proverbs 3:7 reminds us not to be wise in our own eyes but to fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Trusting in our own understanding often leads to self-reliance and pride, but humility helps us recognize that only God’s wisdom can guide us rightly. Fearing the Lord means acknowledging His authority and submitting to His ways, which protects us from the dangers of sin and leads to wisdom. Today, let’s ask God for help in recognizing our dependence on Him, turning away from self-reliance and fully trusting in His wisdom.
